Saving Password in Firefox
Whenever you login to any websites Firefox by default displays a popup prompt asking whether you want the browser to remember your password as shown below.
Once you have selected the “Remember Password” option, from next time onwards the username and password will be autofilled when you open the login screen of that site. If you don’t want Firefox to remember password then just close the popup or click on the dropdown and choose “Never Remember Password for this Site” option.

Though the remember password option is very useful on computers used by single user, it is not safe to use it on shared computers. Anyone having access to the computer can go to Firefox and check all saved passwords. Sometimes Firefox will also ask you whether you want to use the passwords saved for domain and subdomains interchangeably which you do not need. Here is the process of deleting the saved passwords for any reason.
- Navigate to “Preferences” section available under the “Settings” option.

- Go to “Security” tab and click on “Saved Passwords…” button under “Passwords” section.
- Here you can see the list of passwords stored by Firefox. You can also view the actual password by clicking on the “Show Passwords” button. Click on “Remove” button to delete the password from the browser’s memory.

Setting a Master Password
As mentioned above, anyone having access to your Firefox browser can view all the stored passwords and username for each URL. This is high risk and to add more security Firefox allows you to set a master password which you need to enter on every sessions for retrieving the stored passwords. You can set master password by enabling “Use a master password” option available under “Preferences > Security”.

Set a site URL under exception list so that Firefox will never show the “Remember Password” popup when you open that site.
When you access a website in the Firefox Web browser that requires a login, Firefox automatically presents you with a dialog box that asks you if you want it to remember your password. This is a convenient feature, but if you need to remember the actual password term or want to review the passwords that Firefox is storing, you have the option to get to this information. Use the tools in your Firefox browser to find your saved passwords.

To delete individual passwords, highlight the username pre-filled on the screen and select the Delete (not backspace) key. To delete all saved passwords:
- Open the Tools menu (in newer versions this will appear as a gear icon in the upper right corner)
- Select Internet Options
- Select Content
- Under AutoComplete, select Settings
- Click Delete AutoComplete history..
- To prevent AutoComplete in teh future, make sure AutoComplete is deselectec for User names and passwords on forms.

Note: Keychain Access also has the ability to store passwords for web browsers - you can use the program to delete any unwanted passwords for websites if you are having problems with your web browser.

Microsoft Internet Explorer users
To clear Internet Explorer passwords, use the keyboard shortcutCtrl+Shift+Del. The Delete Browsing History window will open. Keep the passwords check box checked and any other check boxes and press the Delete button.

Google Chrome users
To clear Google Chromes passwords, use the keyboard shortcutCtrl+Shift+Del to open the Clear browsing data window. Keep the clear saved passwords check box checked and any other check boxes and press the Clear browsing data button.
Mozilla Firefox users
To clear Mozilla Firefox passwords follow these steps.
- Open Firefox.
- Click Tools and then Options.
- In the Options window, click the Privacy button and click the Clear button on the Saved Passwords.
Opera users
To clear Opera saved passwords, also known as Wand passwords, follow these steps.
- Open Opera.
- Click File and then Preferences.
- In the Preferences window, click the Security option and then the Manage Wand passwords button. In the Server manager window, you can customize your saved passwords.
